2nd Milestone (Kickstarter - Grab a Mug, Get a Hug)

This project aimed to empower coffee producers in Miramar, Costa Rica, by giving them the opportunity to improve the quality of their coffee and connect with the global specialty coffee market.

This was achieved through the strengthening of the El Bueyerito micro-mill, founded by Roberto Jiménez, by providing infrastructure, training, and access to new markets.

The Problem
Although coffee is one of the most traded commodities in the world, many producers receive very low prices, sometimes even below production costs. In Miramar, the situation worsened after a financial crisis in the local cooperative, which caused production to drop from 2,000 to just 600 hectares.

Challenges:

  • Lack of investment: Many producers rely on cooperatives to pre-finance their harvests.
  • Limited technology and knowledge: Producing high-quality coffee requires specialized equipment and technical expertise.
  • Market access difficulties: Even with quality coffee, producers need buyers willing to pay fair prices and the right channels to reach them.

Proposed Solution
Through a crowdfunding campaign, the goal is to strengthen El Bueyerito as a specialty coffee processing hub and connect producers with direct marketing channels via Planting Costa Rica. This will allow them to sell their coffee at fairer prices, without relying on intermediaries or the volatility of commodity markets.

The project seeks to transform the conditions of coffee producers in Miramar by helping them produce higher-quality coffee, connecting them with specialty buyers, and making their work more sustainable and profitable in the long term.
